Steep slopes on new builds are one of those problems that can't be ignored. Left unaddressed, you get erosion, unstable soil, and a yard that's basically unusable. This Prior Lake project is a good example of what it looks like when you tackle a hillside the right way - from the ground up, with the right materials.

We're mid-project here, and the boulder wall work is well underway across two neighboring homes. Large natural boulders, stacked and set with care, are doing the heavy lifting - literally. This isn't just about looks. A properly built boulder wall locks in the hillside, manages water movement, and creates usable, level space where there wasn't any before. The geotextile fabric layered behind each wall section is part of that drainage system - it's what keeps soil from migrating through over time.

The granite steps running up the hillside are a big part of this scope too. Clean, consistent risers cut through the middle of the boulder work and connect the upper and lower levels of the yard. That kind of access matters - especially on a lakeside property where you're moving between levels constantly. Good steps aren't an afterthought, they're part of the whole plan.

We're not done yet. Once the hardscape is locked in, our softscape crew comes in to finish the job - planting beds, irrigation, and sod to bring the whole thing together. That's how you get a result that looks intentional and holds up season after season. It takes the full crew, working in the right order.

If you've got a slope giving you headaches - whether it's a new build or an older property that's starting to shift and settle - this is the kind of work that fixes it for good. Boulder walls are one of the most durable solutions out there, and when the steps and softscape are all part of the same plan, the end result speaks for itself.
