Built-In Grill Island and Paver Patio in New Prague

Most people think adding a grill to their backyard means rolling a freestanding unit onto the patio and calling it a day. Nothing wrong with that - but it's a completely different feel when the cooking area is actually built into the space. That's what we were going for here.

We installed this built-in grill island on a large paver patio in New Prague. The island is built from concrete block with a solid stone cap countertop, housing a stainless steel grill, a double-door access cabinet below, and a mini fridge on the side. Everything you need is right there - no hauling things in and out, no propane tanks sitting in plain sight, no clutter.

What makes a setup like this work long-term is the details. The island sits directly on the paver surface, which we then came back to seal after the install. Sealing pavers is one of those things that doesn't get enough attention - it keeps the color locked in, protects the joints from weeds and erosion, and makes the whole surface a lot easier to clean. Skipping it means spending more money down the road to restore something that didn't need to deteriorate in the first place.

The covered pergola structure overhead gives this space a real outdoor room feel. Pair that with the paver patio, the grill island, and a spot to sit down and eat - and you've got a backyard that actually gets used. That's the goal with every patio we build.
