Shoreline erosion is one of those problems that sneaks up on lake property owners. What starts as a little soil washing away near the waterline can eventually undermine your yard, your landscaping - and even your property value. That's exactly the kind of situation we're tackling on Cedar Lake right here in New Prague.
We're well into the lakeshore restoration on this property, and the progress speaks for itself. We've laid in a solid rip rap and boulder retaining wall system along the waterline. The boulders are tightly packed and properly staged from the water's edge up the bank, sitting over filter fabric to keep the soil locked in place behind it. This isn't just about looks - it's about stopping the erosion cycle for good.
Rip rap done right is heavy work. It takes the right equipment, the right stone placement, and a crew that knows how shoreline dynamics actually work. Water doesn't push evenly - it surges, it undercuts, it finds weak spots. So we build with that in mind. Every boulder is placed to absorb and redirect that energy rather than fight it.
This one isn't finished yet. Our hardscape crew is coming in next to install a new paver patio that will tie everything together and give these homeowners a clean, finished outdoor living space right on the water. It's a great example of how lakeshore restoration and hardscaping work hand in hand - you protect the shore first, then you build on top of it with confidence.
We're proud to be doing this kind of work close to home. New Prague is our backyard, and getting to work with great customers right here in our own community makes every job that much more rewarding.
