This is a big one. We're well into a large paver patio and fire pit build in New Prague, and the whole crew is on it. Jobs like this one take a lot of moving parts - prep work, base material, layout lines, retaining wall blocks, and then the paver installation itself. There's no shortcut to doing it right.
Here's what the process actually looks like on a job this size. First, the base goes down - compacted gravel that gives the whole patio a stable, level foundation. You can see the string lines pulled tight across the layout, which is how we keep every row of pavers running perfectly straight. That attention to the base and layout is what separates a patio that holds up for decades from one that shifts and settles in a few years.
The retaining wall border around the fire pit area is already set, and the crew is working through the paver field section by section. Each paver gets seated by hand and checked as we go. It's not glamorous work, but that hands-and-knees attention to detail is what makes the finished product look clean and tight.
Fall hardscape weather in Minnesota doesn't get much better than this. Cool mornings, plenty of sunlight, and firm ground make for ideal conditions to push through a job of this scale. We're making great progress, and this one is going to be a serious backyard when it's finished - plenty of space for a patio setup and a fire pit area that will get a lot of use.
